A tough crowd?
Long time supporters of CardioKit were at Southmead Hospital this month to take part in a live ‘Cook Off.’
The event was held to celebrate the opening of Southmead Hospital’s stunning new herb garden. More about this fantastic facility can be found here.
Steve Mercer, Head Chef at Neston Farm Shop and Kitchen and Christopher Wild, a medical scientist and former chef (more about both of these talented gentlemen can be read in our newsletter) took part in the CardioKit Cook Off. The ‘contestants’ were given a list of ingredients, which included CardioKit favourites such as beetroot, quinoa and broccoli. Steve and Chris both sourced their ingredients from local producers – Steve from Neston Farm Shop and Chris from Fresh-Range. The Severn Project provided the edible flowers and the herbs were collected straight from Southmead Hospital’s new herb garden (apparently this took a brave battle with the bees – their words not ours…)
Steve went in to the arena first with Dr Ali Khavandi watching on and compèring the event. Chris was up next and it didn’t seem to take long for him to get in to the chef mindset.
Judged by Simon Wood, the hospital’s Facilities Manager, the cook off was a hotly fought competition and it was just too close to call so it ended up a draw. Obviously this means a re-match is called for!
We would like to thank all those who attended whether as a guest or as a competitor – it was a fun and informative event that wouldn’t be possible without your support.
